Special Upgrade Offer:
from PhotoPerfect Master to ColorPro Suite + Calibration Kit
binuscan PhotoPerfect, bundled with Umax or Polaroid scanner, is actually
a limited edition of our core product, binuscan ColorPro.
Users of PhotoPerfect, once they have tasted binuscan's advanced technology,
wish they could use it with their other scanners ; it is often a logical
step to design an integrated binuscan workflow, to ensure consistant quality
using various input sources.
We have set up a special offer so that users of binuscan PhotoPerfect
can upgrade to binuscan ColorPro Suite with its Calibration Kit, the highest
level in our product range, with more than 50% discount off the suggested
retail price:
6.900 French Francs (instead of 15.800 French Francs) US $ 1,049
(instead of US $2,339).
All registered users of binuscan PhotoPerfect Advanced/RGB or Master/CMYK&RGB
qualify for this special upgrade.
Main benefits of this upgrade offer
-
The ability to retouch images
As opposed to ColorPro, PhotoPerfect is a one-step solution:
the scanned image is immediately processed, either to RGB or to
CMYK. In the PhotoPerfect Master/CMYK&RGB workflow, it is not
possible to retouch images while remaining certain of the quality
of the output. With PhotoPerfect Master, the user can retouch (in
Adobe Photoshop for example) a processed, color corrected image
in RGB, or a processed, color corrected image in CMYK.
If the image is going to be retouched in RGB (which is ideal and
recommended) PhotoPerfect Master cannot be used to separate the
image to CMYK. Hence most users will end up separating the image
using another application software, therefore losing the advantage
of the binuscan separation tables and screens. If the image is to
be retouched in CMYK therer are several obvious problems.
First, the display of a CMYK image on a RGB monitor will render
colors that cannot be trusted. Therefore, no color correction is
possible Second, any modification on a CMYK image can potentially
alter the Total Ink Coverage (the amount of ink to be applied) to
dangerous levels. If the TIC is increased, there is a chance that
bleeding will occur. Bleeding is when the ink from one print bleeds
onto the next print because too much was applied, and therefore
it did not have time to dry. If the TIC is brought to low levels,
there may be areas in the image where not enough ink is applied.
This causes some areas of the print to be excessively clear (almost
transparent).
Finally, any CMYK image that is modified in Photoshop (or any other
image retouching software like Corel Draw, Live Picture, etc) loses
all the PostScript information and the preview embedded by PhotoPerfect
inside the image file. PostScript information in an image includes
screening information and transfer functions. Experience has taught
us all that when poor screening is applied to even a high quality
CMYK binuscan image, the results can be terrible.
With the ColorPro Suite Special Offer Upgrade, the processing/color
correction step can be split up from the color separation step.
This means that images can be processed in RGB then retouched manually
in Photoshop (or any other image retouching software) in RGB. When
retouching is complete (including removal of dust and scratches,
photomontages, special effects, and clipping paths), binuscan IPM
will separate the image to give a very high quality CMYK file with
binuscan's well known high quality preview, screening, etc.
A spin-off of this argument is of course the ability to use binuscan
ColorPro Suite to separate ANY image (including archived files from
any input source or files provided by a customer) and to produce
excellent CMYK files with the binuscan screens and preview.

The ability to work with images from other scanners, Kodak Photo
CD, and any input source
binuscan ColorPro Suite is capable of acquiring and processing
images from any input source not just a Umax or Polaroid
scanner as is the case with PhotoPerfect Master.
On the Macintosh, simply place your scanner/digital camera driver
into the plug-ins folder and use it to scan instead of Photoshop.
On a PC, ColorPro Suite will access the TWAIN source which comes
with almost all scanners and digital cameras.
If the input source does not have a plug-in or TWAIN source, simply
drop your images into the "TO DO" folder and let the IPM
do the rest. Expect equal quality from what you are used to obtain
with your Umax or Polaroid scanner.
With Kodak PhotoCD images, use the IPM to convert the PhotoCD files
from YCC to RGB. binuscan software probably has the best such conversion.
Most people who have quality issues with the PhotoCD do not realize
that it is not a problem inherent with the PhotoCD format. Instead
quality issues are usually due to poor conversion from PhotoCD images
to standard RGB files.
As a reference, Kodak is offering a bundle of a special software
package for PhotoCD with all Pro PhotoCD Master Disks worldwide.

binuscan ColorPro Suite allows the calibration of input devices
Calibration targets are included with this special upgrade.
These allow for customized calibration of a specific scanner in
minutes.
Modules and color tables which are included in PhotoPerfect Master
are based upon a base scanner model from the manufacturer. Even
tough Umax and Polaroid have both made extreme efforts to make each
unit in the production like the next, there still exists a slight
deviation between each unit (2%-3%). For extreme color requirements,
the calibration capabilities of ColorPro Suite allow users to overcome
these differences.
More importantly, the calibration capabilities are similar to an
extended warranty on an input device such as a scanner. New scanners
are reliable, but as they age color accuracy decreases. Calibration
overcomes this effect easily and in minutes. Finally, use the calibration
kit to profile drum scanners.
binuscan ColorPro Suite 6.0also includes additional module settings
for image quality management a must for newspapers production
environments where originals cannot always match the required standard
for quality, and have to be quickly identified without the need
for someone to verify all images individually.

binuscan ColorPro Suite has a Client/Server architecture
This modern application structure is extremely useful.
It allows the software to be integrated into almost any workflow
situation. With the ability to set up to 20 input and output folders
on a network, as well as the ability to scan from multiple stations
at once, ColorPro Suite can easily eliminate production bottlenecks.
binuscan ColorPro Suite can be installed on cross-platform (Mac-PC)
networks seamlessly.

binuscan ColorPro Suite includes a Quark XTension: binuscan JobManager
This Quark XTension is a must for anyone who produces
page layouts in Quark XPress. It is an interface between Quark XPress
and the IPM and can order cropping, resampling, resizing, color
correction, etc. directly from the XPress user interface. In a production
environment, JobManageris easily one of the most cost saving elements
there is.

Technical specifications
binuscan ColorPro Suite uses a hardware protection key
called a "dongle". The binuscan dongles are available
for USB, ADB or PC Parallel ports. The dongle in the special upgrade
package is limited to 50 images processed. You only need to register
your upgrade and your PhotoPerfect software at the same time. You
will receive passwords for unlimited use. Once installed, you can
use binuscan ColorPro Suite in lieu of PhotoPerfect. You can uninstall
PhotoPerfect if you need hard disk space.
You will get the same features and functionalities as users of the
regular versions. You can upgrade your installation if a new version
of ColorPro Suite is released. And you get the exact same level
of support from us.
The only reason why this upgrade has a special price is to thank
PhotoPerfect users for using a binuscan product, to reward them
for their trust, and to give them easy access to the highest level
in our product range.
