Rebuilding
Colors

Image color correction for prepress: ReCo analyzes each image histogram and rebuilds true colors — contrast, depth and sharpness — through algorithmic processing, without generating imagery.

The problem

Incoming images — advertisements, editorial photographs and raw JPEGs — are rarely print-ready. Unbalanced histograms, compression and poor contrast cause the printed result to look washed out without prior correction.

  • Raw RGB images without prepress preparation
  • Inconsistent advertisements that must be normalized before printing
  • JPEG artifacts and loss of sharpness in the production workflow

How it works

ReCo is image-processing technology, not a generator. It reads the histogram and automatically adjusts the parameters that determine the printed result.

  1. Analyze the histogram of each individual image.
  2. Correct white and black points, brightness and contrast.
  3. Adjust saturation and sharpness for a natural result.
  4. Deliver output ready for conversion and printing on the selected substrate.

Observed effects

  • More natural, vibrant and balanced photographs
  • Greater color consistency before printing
  • Improved contrast, depth and sharpness
  • Automated processing with no manual image-by-image setup
  • Optional additions: JPEG artifact removal and enlargement up to 200%

ReCo is not generative artificial intelligence: no imagery is invented. It is adaptive processing based on statistical histogram analysis.

Where to find it

ReCo is a technology component, not a standalone product. It powers the IPM engine and can be enabled as an option in selected PDF workflows.

  • IPM Serviceproduct

Automatic processing of individual images (JPEG, JPG, PSD).

  • App ReCodelivery model

iOS application available; Android version in development.

  • PageFinisher Xtraproduct

ReCo is available when the optional IPM feature is enabled.

  • ColorBoxdelivery model

Hardware and deployment package that can include Binuscan engines.

If IPM is not enabled in PageFinisher Xtra, images embedded in PDFs are not processed by ReCo.
